Clash of The Titans: Snapdeal vs. Amazon vs. Flipkart

Technology is advancing us into an age where almost everything is going to be digital. Everything from buying and selling property to online entrance exams to online counseling of students to help them choose the best option available to them. All these things are happening online and more are on their way to follow suit. In my blog, I am going to discuss and review products available on online shopping sites and my reviews would be focused on electronic products e.g. mobile phones, tablets, laptops, desktops, data storage devices, etc. In India, we have a number of online shopping sites who have made it big into the market. Let us talk about the three most popular and successful online shopping sites in India, viz., snapdeal.com, flipkart.com and amazon.in.

1. Snapdeal.com

Snapdeal.com was founded in February,2010. Since then, it has never looked back and has went on to become one of the largest online stores in India. This site was my personal favorite for a long time. It has a huge variety of products and that too at crazy prices. The website boasts of having over 4 million products over a wide variety provided by over 50,000 sellers. Those figures surely will convince you that snapdeal.com is no minnow in the world of online retailing.

Pros:

  • Great deals
  • Often provide the commodity at the lowest price in the market.
  • Huge variety of commodities.
  • Lots of options to choose from.

Cons:

  • Do not have a speedy delivery service.
  • Frequency of user complaints regarding damaged product delivery is highest among the three. (Personally, I ordered products on snapdeal.com dozens of times and am yet to receive a damaged product).

2. Amazon.in

I don’t need to say this. Amazon is a global giant. In June, 2013 Amazon launched amazon.in, which in today’s date has become one of the biggest players in the Indian online retailing business. Amazon launched its subsidiary in India with a $2 billion investment that has served it right. After all, the name Amazon is synonymous to trust when one wants to order something online. It is because of this trust that Amazon has been a huge success even without a major marketing campaign.

Pros:

  • Choose amazon.in if you want a speedy delivery.
  • You can choose from a wide range of “Amazon Verified” products which give an assurance of quality like no other web store.
  • Great variety of products at great prices.

Cons:

  • The amazon.in website is not as interactive and fluid as its competitors.

3. Flipkart.com

Flipkart.com is an e-commerce company started in 2007. It has since then become a huge online retail site and is cited by some as the largest e-commerce website in India. It has its headquarters in Bangalore but was registered in Singapore. With a valuation at around $12 billion, this company looks all set to become a global name in the not so far future.

Pros:

  • Some products are launched exclusively on flipkart.com.
  • Probably the widest variety of products among the three.
  • On-time delivery.

Cons:

  • Tends  to be slightly more expensive than the other two.

This post is only to give you a brief introduction of the websites from where I will review products quite often. You can request some particular product to be reviewed by commenting the name of the product in the comments section.
